Wussification of America

Colorado Springs School Bans Tag on Playground, Citing Conflicts
Thursday , August 30, 2007

An elementary school has banned tag on its playground after some children complained they were harassed or chased against their will. "It causes a lot of conflict on the playground," said Cindy Fesgen, assistant principal of the Discovery Canyon Campus school.

Running games are still allowed as long as students don't chase each other, she said. Fesgen said two parents complained to her about the ban but most parents and children didn't object. In 2005, two elementary schools in the nearby Falcon School District did away with tag and similar games in favor of alternatives with less physical contact. School officials said the move encouraged more students to play games and helped reduce playground squabbles.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The wussification of America continues. I can only hope that Tag will be replaced with group hugs and art/crafts. The world of Nerf that these kids are growing up in is surely going to translate into more productive and well adjusted citizens. I think it is wise to keep kids away from all types of conflict. Who wants a kid that has faced and dealt with issues amongst peers? Who wants a kid that is competitive and wants to win? I think it is a much better idea to have a kid that looks for others to solve their problems and if that doesn't work just pass some laws to eliminate it.

NASA: WE SUR IZ SMARTS

NASA Mulls Drug, Alcohol Testing for Astronauts

Wednesday, August 29, 2007

AP

h and safety report recommends the space agency explore the idea of drug and alcohol testing for astronauts and other employees.

While the review released Wednesday found no evidence that astronauts were drunk or had been drinking heavily before any space launch — as suggested by an independent panel last month — it cited booze-buying runs made for space shuttle crews awaiting launch.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

NASA is suppose to be home to the smartest people in our country yet they do not follow the same standards of employment screening that the fast food industry utilizes for their employees? It is no wonder we haven't been back to the moon (if we even went to begin with).

My I Tunes addiction

After two years of searching, burning, ripping and downloading I finally hit the 3000 song mark on my I Pod. The good news is that even with some movies and TV show I still have room for 7 more gigs worth of music and then upgrade (my wife will inherit my current I pod). In this time I have diversified my music listening and was surprised to see that I have 77 country songs, over 200 Blues, over 1300 Hip Hop and over 1000 rock songs. Throw in some of Disney's greatest hits, Grandma got run over by a reindeer and some Sinatra and that is my collection.

When I go through my collection the one thing that (regardless of genre) my preference seems to be music from the South. I attribute my taste in Rock music to my father, he may have the biggest rock & blues collection in the midwest. I grew up listening to Lynard Skynard, CCR, The Doors, Rolling Stones, Joe Walsh, Steve Miller etc... all courtesy of my father. When I hit Jr. High and High School my music tastes changed to groups like Guns & Roses(still my favorite) and Van Halen. Then 1988 hit and I got a copy of an Eazy E tape from a kid that transferred to my school from Los Angles and I was hooked on Hip Hop. Back then the Hip Hop section in the music stores was non existent and we had to wait for his cousin to come and visit before we would get the new music. We would make so many dubbed tapes for friends that the tape decks we used wouldn't last any longer than a month or so. When I met my wife she was into and still is into Country music. It took me awhile but I have actually found that if you look hard enough there is enough Country music out there with a rock influence that it has become one of my favorite genres (thank you Big & Rich).

Currently the top 10 groups in my rotation are

1. Lynard Skynard
2. Velvet Revolver
3. Young Buck
4. T.I
5. Big & Rich
6. Dropkick Murphy's (if you have seen The Departed you have heard them)
7. Lil Flip
8. Ludacris
9. Trace Adkins
10. Robert Cray

Midwest Floods

You would have to be blind or completely ignorant to not notice the differences. As I watch the news and see the video footage of peoples homes underwater, boats trolling through main streets, schools and churches being used as shelters and hospitals being evacuated something seems to be missing.

I keep waiting for the reports of rape and murder, video footage of victims shooting at rescue helicopters, Al & Jessie blaming George Bush, police officers abandoning there posts etc... yet it never appears. Why is this? I was lead to believe that the people of this country were completely helpless without the government yet these people who had NO WARNING are not crying for help, they know the help will come but in the meantime they are taking care of themselves.

Funny how the people that had nearly a WEEK OF NOTICE couldn't do the same.

Michael Vick: "I found Jesus"

Today as Michael Vick turned his plea in he proclaimed that he has found Jesus and is a changed man. It amazes me how many people find Jesus once they get into trouble. Has he been hiding the rest of the time? Do criminal defense attorneys have his cell phone number?

Just the other day I found Jesus with out even looking. He was in the Big Lebowski picking up the 7-10 split.

Safari of 2007.

Today we trudged through the Kansas City zoo. Armed with 2 cameras, cash, a stroller and sunblock we went head to head with some of the meanest animals known to man. Unlike the Crocodile Hunter I came back alive and able to pass along some photos of these vicious animals.

Yet another Chiefs mistake

The Kansas City Chiefs in their infinite wisdom have named journeyman backup Damn Huard as there starting QB for the 2007 season. This would only make sense if the Chiefs had a team suited to make a playoff run and as everyone can clearly see they don't. Instead of using this season as a rebuilding year and a year to get Croyle some game day experience and possibly finishing 6-10 they are going to make the big run at 8-8. This isn't a knock against Huard, I like the guy he just isn't what we need now.

What Carl doesn't realize is that it doesn't matter who is at Quarterback (so why not start the young guy). There are too many holes that haven't been addressed.

1. The Offensive line is terrible.
2. The Wide Receivers can not catch
3. Our corners are ancient and have both lost a step
4. The center of our D-Line is still not providing a push (with the exception of Tank tyler).
5. Our deep snapper is having problems putting the ball in the right place for kicks.
6. The Cover 2 defense is not catching on with the players.
7. The offensive coordinator can not game plan
8. Jared Allen is going to miss the first 2 games

This is going to be a long season.

Mystery of the Orange cookie

Why is it that at every buffet from Vegas to KC you can find orange cookies? These do not exist at Bakeries, Delis, Grocery Stores etc... yet every buffet you go to has freshly baked orange cookies.

Dave Chappelle makes you think

Indians.

Dave Chappelle may be one of the greatest minds of our time. For the past 6 months I have been trying to find more than 2 Indians(sitting bull not Ghandi) together in a non casino or reservation environment. On Tuesday I saw 3 homeless Indians digging through the trash behind Jeffersons and my mission was acomplished. But in 34 years I had never seen such a thing.

So how many have you seen together at once and where?

Fast Food joints that we don't have.

This city is littered with McDonalds, Taco Bells, Sonics etc.. but we are missing the cornerstones of healthy nutrition.

1. White Castle
2. Whataburger
3. Taco Tico
4. Braums
5. Jack N The Box
6. Del Taco

In good news the addition of Taco John's and Taco Bueno have finally ended Taco Bells dominance in this city.

Happy Dog Owner

Gambling
• Vick agrees "that the 'Bad Newz Kennels' business enterprise involved gambling activities in violation of the laws of the Commonwealth of Virginia as set forth in the indictment."
• "Most of the Bad Newz Kennels operation and gambling monies were provided by Vick."
• When the kennel's dogs won a fight, the gambling proceeds were generally shared by Vick's three co-defendants -- Tony Taylor, Purnell Peace and Quanis Phillips.
• "Vick did not gamble by placing side bets on any of the fights. Vick did not receive any of the proceeds of the purses that were won by Bad Newz Kennels."

Killing of dogs
• "Vick agrees and stipulates that these dogs all died as a result of the collective efforts of Peace, Phillips and Vick."

• "Peace, Phillips, and Vick agreed to the killing of approximately 6-8 dogs that did not perform well in 'testing' sessions ... and all of those dogs were killed by various methods, including hanging and drowning."
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

After Vick turned in his plea the NFL suspended him indefinitely and Nike canceled his contract. In the meantime Leonard Little who killed a woman while driving drunk (received 90 days in jail, four years probation and 1000 community service hours) in 1998 continues to play in the NFL after receiving his 2nd DUI in 2004.

Both of these men are disgraces to the NFL but why is killing a woman less of a charge than killing a dog in the eyes of the NFL?

I still don't know which way he is voting, do you?

CTN = Crappy Television Network

Why is it that a football team worth over a billion dollars is using the same camera equipment that covered the moon landing? This could be the worst picture quality I have ever seen. Is KCTV saving all of the HD cameras for Katie Horner? Between the play on the field and the grainy blurs on my tv it is almost unwatchable.

I wasn't convinced until I saw this

KMBC HD NEWS, FINALLY!

The Kansas City Star

At 5 p.m. on Thursday, KMBC, Channel 9, will launch Kansas City’s first high-definition newscast from its new facility. The change will be obvious even to viewers not watching on HDTV sets.

The new home of KMBC and sister station KCWE-29, close to Swope Park, features a flexible news set where the cameras and anchor desk can be rotated to offer viewers different glimpses into the wide-open newsroom. An improved weather center will not only offer more eye candy but eliminate the long walk Bryan Busby had to take from the anchor desk to the green screen at Channel 9’s downtown studios.

But before we get to the newsroom, C. Wayne Godsey, the general manager of KMBC-KCWE, is walking me through the rest of his new headquarters, pointing out features like he’s trying to sell me the place.

“You’ll think I’m funny showing you this,” he says as we walk into a tastefully appointed employee restroom. He also points out the high-tech conference rooms, the airy break room and the parking lot, where a reporter can get out of her car, walk through two doors and be at her desk in seconds.

Clearly, Godsey is full of house pride. He supervised the entire project from the beginning. Even then, in the spring of 2004, when all he had were blueprints, he was eager to show how the exterior would be fashioned after the terra cotta-tiled buildings that adorn the Country Club Plaza. Today, he points out the framed photos in the hallway showing off Kansas City landmarks and the beauty of the Ozarks and Flint Hills.

But the heart of the new facility is the newsroom, which has been reorganized around a large, circular desk where the assignment and Internet editors will work side by side. It’s adjacent to the news set and will be visible in the background beneath a halo of flat-screen displays. The anchor desk is on wheels, and in the opening weeks expect to see it moved around to show a variety of backdrops during evening newscasts. (Morning news will move to the new studio on Friday.)

A glass wall — more eye candy — will separate the newsroom from editing rooms, including one equipped for booming 5.1 surround sound (which you’ll need both HDTV and home theater speakers to experience).

Showing the newsroom is something networks have done for years, ever since CNN’s visionary first president, Reese Schonfeld, ripped the lid off the sardine can in 1980.

KMBC had one anchor desk overlooking its newsroom downtown, but the new set will feel like it has been plopped down in the middle of everything. This “will create a sense of urgency,” Godsey says, “and some shots our audience has never seen before.” He has bought a wireless handheld camera that can rove the hallways, taking shots of the newsroom or anywhere else in the building.

Behind the scenes, the 170-plus employees of KMBC, KCWE and corporate owner Hearst-Argyle Television are experiencing an upgrade that might be called “Extreme Makeover: Work Edition.”

Their offices at the Lyric Opera building, where Channel 9 has been since the 1950s, were like a TV station turned on its side. Employees were spread out over six floors, and some offices spilled over to a building across Central Street.

In their new two-story workspace, departments are arranged efficiently, one might even say promiscuously, with few walls and an overhang that lets sales and promotion people look, or yell, down into the newsroom.

Secure parking, a helipad for Johnny Rowlands to park his bird and a diesel-powered backup generator are just three of the amenities here that KMBC couldn’t get at the Lyric.

“I can’t tell you what a dramatically different feel this is,” Godsey says.

Beginning Thursday, however, we’ll know how dramatically different it looks.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Ever since I purchased my tv watching the news hasn't been the same. Finally there will be a newscast that not only will look good on TV but will actually take up the whole screen without having to stretch the picture.

WHAT'S FOR DINNER?

This question seemed to be the only conversation that my wife and I would have every night when I came home. It would then be followed up with the following roll call of choices. McDonalds, Burger King, Winsteads, Wendys, Applebees curbside and Taco Bell. So for the past 11 years I have had a hamburger every weeknight for dinner. My wife has some challenges in the Kitchen (she once had to call someone to figure out how to make instant rice) and I knew this going into the deal but assumed that with a little practice that she might actually get a little better.

Another problem that we have is that I like my food to have flavor while my wife likes bland foods. She will not eat a cut up vegetables. If we go out to dinner you can look down at her plate and see a pile of ingredients sitting on her plate that she has expertly picked out of the food. I don't even notice this act anymore it is a rapid fluid motion a lot like a hummingbird feeding and can only be seen in slow motion.

All of this changed about a month ago when I came home and smelt actual food cooking inside our kitchen. At first I thought my kids had fired up there easy bake oven but it wasn't, there was an actual meal being prepared in my kitchen. I was excited but in the back of my head the Lasagna incident of 1996 cautioned me. At this point I didn't care what it was as long as I didn't have to hear the question "what is for dinner?" and eat another fast food hamburger. Dinner was served and on my plate was a Jambalaya with sausage and cut up vegetables. It was incredible. So for the last month I have enjoyed a nice variety of meals cooked in my kitchen by my wife and I would like to take this time to thank the very special person that made this possible.

Woman Sets Herself, Boyfriend on Fire
Wednesday August 22 2007 10:12
WICHITA, Kan. (AP) - Police say a Wichita couple are critically burned after the woman set fire to herself and her boyfriend.
Firefighters say the 37-year-old woman doused herself with gasoline and started the fire, leaving herself with burns over 90 percent of her body. The 42-year-old man is suffering from 86 percent burns.
Both are in critical condition in the burn unit of Via Christi Regional Medical Center-St. Francis Campus.
Authorities say the woman became angry after fighting with her boyfriend at their duplex early yesterday.
The fire left $10,000 in damage

JACKASS OF THE DAY - KEVIN KIETZMAN

There is no surprise here that Kevin Kietzman makes an ass of himself while discussing the signing of Larry Johnson of the Chiefs. The "family man" decided to call out LJ's character in regards to him being a team leader. Kietzman said that there is no way that he is a leader and that he has said and done too many controversial things for people to follow him. I find this funny coming from a man that owns (leader) part of 810whb.

A man that while bashing the family values and "leadership" qualities of others were in the meantime cheating on his wife and kids with a twenty-something employee of the station. These actions not only caused him to get a divorce but created turmoil in the company that he owned. Kevin Kietzman is the biggest hypocrite in sports media today and his judging others on character is like Michael Vick telling someone how to care for dogs.

Illegal Activist?????????

(CBS) LOS ANGELES Elvira Arrellano, a Mexican woman who sought sanctuary from deportation in a Chicago church was arrested Sunday in Los Angeles.

A spokesperson from the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement Agency would not confirm Arrellano was taken in by ICE agents on Olvera Street, near La Placita Church, in the Los Angeles Civic Center area at about 3 p.m.

Arellano and her son Saul, 8, who is a U.S. citizen, were in Los Angeles seeking immigration reform and were staying at La Placita Church.

She visited three area churches to speak about immigration, but was arrested before she could go to a fourth church.

Arellano defied a deportation order to report to the Department of Homeland Security on Aug. 15, 2006. Instead, she sought refuge in the Adalberto United Methodist Church in the Humboldt Park area of Chicago.

According to the New Sanctuary Movement, more than 600,000 families in the United States have at least one member facing deportation because they are illegal residents.

Arellano claims she seeks to remain in the United States so her American-born son can get medical care for his attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder.

Arellano arrived in the U.S. in 1997 and was soon deported back to Mexico. In 2000, she returned and moved to Illinois, working at Chicago's O'Hare International Airport cleaning planes.

She was arrested in 2002 and later convicted of working under a false Social Security number, prompting the order for her to be deported.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
So this woman swam through sewage, climbed barb wire fences, walked across the desert and fought off packs of hyenas to get to our country. Then fought and hid for 10 years to stay in this country. TO PROTEST AGAINST OUR COUNTRY???????????

The best part of this story is that she is fighting to stay for her sons medical care, THE KID HAS ADHD, not cancer. Michael Jackson wouldn't even invite this kid to Neverland Ranch for this "illness". "Michael why was was Diego at your ranch", "Diego has ADHD and I am helping him through this tough time". It just isn't a good alibi.

Fat Virus

WASHINGTON (AP) -- In the buffet of reasons for why Americans are getting fatter, researchers are piling more evidence on the plate for one still-controversial cause: a virus. New research announced Monday found that when human stem cells -- the blank slate of the cell world -- were exposed to a common virus they turned into fat cells. They didn't just change, they stored fat, too. While this may be a guilt-free explanation for putting on pounds, it doesn't explain all or even most of America's growing obesity problem. But it adds to other recent evidence that blames more than just super-sized appetites and underused muscles for expanding waistlines.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Just what we need to increase the cost of our health care, fat treatment. How long before people start calling in "fat" to work? "Sorry Mr. Employer I don't think I can come in today, I think a new chin is coming in and I can no longer see my big toe when I look down."

Car Shopping

A 20-year-old Kansas City man has been arrested in connection with a Leawood car-jacking two months ago where the victim was shot in the face.

The suspect was arrested Saturday on charges of aggravated robbery. He is being held in Kansas City awaiting extradition to Kansas.

The robbery took place June 21 at 117th Street and Roe Avenue. A white Pontiac Vibe was stopped at a red light when the carjacker opened the car door, shot the driver in the lip and took the car. The victim, a 46-year-old Kansas City man, suffered non life-threatening injuries and has since recovered, police said.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Violent crimes have been occurring more in the Johnson County area but the criminals do not fully understand the market place. Instead of car jacking one of the many BMW or Mercedes in the area this idiot steals a Pontiac Vibe. That would be like going to The Plaza III and ordering a bologna sandwich.

MY BLOG

It turns out that my wife has had a blog for months and people actually read it. It wasn't more than 4 years ago that she couldn't even turn the computer on without calling for help and now she is outdoing me on the internet. So I have no choice but to create my own blog.
